Bead and Cove

Posted by Mac on Nov 8, 2004

OK,

Things are getting way too serious here. Time for the dumb question of the week.

I've been reading all the posts about hybrids and drooling over the pics.

I haven't ordered Nick Schade's book yet (but probably will after I learn how to navigate and build a SOF and achieve world peace and stuff...).

So here goes - from what I've read so far, if you order a strip-built kit, you get bead and cove strips which I would guess, are sort of like lazy tongue and groove.

Then we proceed to build these boats which don't have one sraight line in them. Which means each and every inch of every strip is being shaped. planed, sanded and bent.

So what happens to all the beads and coves besides being turned into shavings and sawdust? I mean, why bother? Why not just start with laths of an equal thickness and go to town?

Or am I missing something - as usual?

Oh, and are the edges of the shaped strips assembled side by side with outdoor carpenter's glue? I assume the deck gets 4 oz fiberglass top and inside anyway?

Way to go Mac, FOUR dumb questions - I'm on a roll - somebody stop me!

Thanks as always

Best to all.......
