Cockpit fiberglass fit

I'm working on fiberglassing the cockpit section of my LT17. Positioning the cloth smoothly without somehow tacking it into place seems near impossible. I found an older post that mentioned tack interior cloth in place with hot glue. Is it ok to have hot glue embedded around different spots on the cloth ok? Any other suggestions for positioning the cloth in the cockpit area? Should I cut the sides to size before or after epoxy? (some people mentioned letting it hang over the edge)
