Glue for scarfs

I'm just wondering if wood glue used for gluing strips would work for gluing scarfs in the sheer and bilge panels. I don't see why it wouldn't work if it all gets glassed anyway. Just trying to conserve my epoxy for glassing. Is this false economy? Thanks.
