I Use Wood Glue

Posted by Kurt Maurer on Sep 10, 2005

I have been using Titebond II wood glue for scarfing plywood panels for S&G projects, building strippers, and laminating Greenland paddle blanks, for a while now. No problems so far, and I don't expect any.

I don't particularly care if the glue in plywood or any other boat building substrate is waterproof or not, as it all gets encapsulated in epoxy anyway. It had better, too, because any water incursion into a plywood boat is gonna give you plenty more problems to worry about than scarf joints popping loose.

The advice on epoxy pre-soak is rather vital, however, when using epoxy as a bonding adhesive in wood-to-wood joinery.

Cheers, Kurt
