Jon,

I've had some success in moving the anchor points for the hatch straps from the shear line to about 1 1/2 inches from the rim of the hatch. (Glue little blocks of wood under the deck to reveive the screws. This makes the straps pull DOWN on the covers rather than just across them. You may want to change to the cam lock type of fasteners as well - they exert a lot more pull and are easier on wet, cold hands.

Thanks to LeeG for this advice gathered over the past couple of years - it works well.

I modified yak #1 and incorporated into yak #2.
