Boat getting heavier after 12 years
I built my kayak nearly 12 years ago and have re varnished every three years. It started at 34 pounds but now weighs nearly 42 pounds. It still has the same rigging configuration, has no dry rot or water infiltration into the epoxy or wood, etc.
any explanation as to why this might occur? Am I just getting weaker and need to work out to lift it? I am 40 years old and in excellent shape from mtbing, surfing, running, etc.

Hahahaha! That's funny! I haven't put on weight, still 150, just the boat. Like I said, I am not sure why ththe boat is getting heavier.

Adrian,
I had pretty much the same thing happen to me. I got on the scale and I weighed a bit more than just 8 pounds more than I did back in 2002 - and I never put on any varnish! Let me know what you find out.
