Sassafrass with Sapele/puzzle joint/trailer (yes 3 questions :-)

In the book, Chris talks about rearranging the planks for better plywood usage.  I am thinking about using a sheet of Sapele for the top plank (without the book here I am thinking that is Plank 5 but who knows could be Plank 1) or what I would call the sheer plank (strake :-)  Has anyone done this?  If I could get all of plank 5 on one sheet of ply, I could use sapele for just that one, that would add only a few pounds to it (figure 20 percent of the boat is 50 percent heavier, right?)

Second question, if I build a boat that the kit is puzzle jointed from, but I build it from plans, do I just do a normal scarf?

Third, I have bought a 4x8 trailer and need to have my mill creek, and either another canoe or kayak towed on it.  Does anyone have ideas for how to lay out the trailer?  (Does anyone have plans for a cradle for the trailer?)

Thanks for making it through all 3 questions :-)

That is a Wood Duck 12.  For my Ches. 18 I had the trailer tongue extended 4'.
