vhf radios: mayday audio

It is a wholly frightening call.

If nothing else the clip demonstrates how chaotic, confusing and unmanageable a true crisis mayday can be. The caller was juggling his radio, engine throttle and anchor rode all at once.

Remarkable to me is how calm and cool the CG watchstander remains throughout.

The accident (scuba) took place in Long Island Sound near Fishers Island. The accident escalated from the simple dropping of a piece of gear to a misplaced regulator to the diver drowning.

The caller (the second diver on the boat) knew that if he went into the water to help the other he would have likely perished also.
