how thick is the inlay? if thin enough have you considered mearly laying the image on the hatch and temporarily gluing it to the hatch and then glassing it in place? There is a fair amout of work to then be done to fair out the inlay without loosing the nice detail of the object. them you'll have the challenge of the resin work to cope with but it does beat the router track. I've done this approach with modest success.
