I too, like to use a (sharp) plane but more as a finishing tool. I like to use my 4 1/2" DeWalt grinder first to rough grind and than finish with a plane. Grinding first saved me hours of hand planing sheer clamps and deck trim.*** Note use ginder with extreme caution or your boat could end up a viking funeral.***
