I too find that a plane works better for somethings than a ROS, etc. Sharpness is critical, and sharpening a tool correctly is probably the hardest thing I learned in woodworking. I love using a sharp plane, and it adjusted my sheerclamps much faster than 60 grit on my ROS. My kids and I recently made greenland paddles out of cedar 2x4s and we had several shopping bags of curly shavings afterward. My daughter made a wig for a school project out of the longer ones - unique! Afterwards I sewed the shavings into pillows for pet beds, the cats love them. Ooooh, I feel so organic!!! gwalter
