Hi-

I'm nearing the end of my MC13 build.  I'm not terribly fond of the rub rails which appear on the plans.

I'm wondering if these are cosmetic, or if they are a necessary structural component of the kayak?  I like the cleaner look without the rub rail, and I don't recall seeing any on some of the other kayaks.

Pleas let me know your thoughts on this.  Fun build so far.  I just finished an 18' center console.  This is much more relaxing!
