Positioning Oar Sleeves

1) Dedicated oars for middle or foreward/aft sockets:
On the dory, the distance (width) between the pairs of oar lock sockets varies from 46" (aft position) to 55" (middle position) to 48" (foreward position).    Do you like to set both pairs of oars the same, or set one pair of oars up for the aft/foreward positions and the other pair for the center position?

2) Positioning of sleeves:
I've seen different techniques for measuring where to put sleeves, but the simplest one I heard was to position the oars in the oar locks, hold them level with the ends of the oar handles 1"-2" apart, and set the sleeve so that the oar collar would rest on the oar lock.  The CLC leather instructions say mount the center of the sleeve half the width of the socket spacing plus 2".   What technique for positioning the sleeves is most common, or your preferance?  Do you set them so the handles overlap in normal rowing or remain seperated?
