Don't know if this will help, but with the 16LT I built, I had this same problem. John at CLC said that it was no big deal, just cut it off flush at the end so that they both match. I have finished my kayak up to the varnishing stage now, and had no problem following his advice. I would wait to cut it off until you hear from others who have built this same kit; perhaps mine is different. I have built just one boat; others on here have built many and have a wealth of advice!
