the owners often carry a cleaned out fingernail polish bottle filled with varnish. Then if the brightwork gets a nick or ding it can be touched up immediately befrore any moisture has a chance to get under there.
That's the big problem with untouched up stuff- moisture. So just use a small brush and do the best you can- it'll not show very much- most folks won't even notice. Then you can do a better job when you revarnish, which also isn't that big a deal- just treat it JUST like you did on your next to last coat when you did it originally. sand, then lay on a new coat. If you get it BEFORE the stuff lifts that is.
