Im getting ready for my first varnish job.. and sanded the hatch cutouts for a practice run. And they turn a grayish color, and are very smooth once you finish with the 220 grit. Except the only problem im having is it seems after I wet sand and inspect for the next varnish coat it looks as if Ive sanded the first coat off! So not sure if Im doing the wet sanding correctly. But have only dinked around without any real serious thought. So im sure ill be back here with many questions myself. Good luck
