The advantage of a "keyhole" cockpit is to allow putting you legs into the kayak after sitting down. It is a necessity if you plan on doing a cowboy (scramble) self-rescue re-entry, my fastest way back into a kayak (if pump out time is included). The reverse is also true in geting your legs out just before hitting the sand on a beach landing so you are not crawling out on your belly like a grunion in the beach wash. Certain adjust the length of the opening to match your leg length. I had to lengthen mine.
