In my personal use I can't say that I would ever put the cockpit under that much strain. Now if I paddled in a rocky area with big swells then that would be a different story. The cockpit is the most likely place for hull failure because the paddlers weight is concentrated there. Add a little inertia to a 160lb paddler and stop it on a solid object and you will test your impact resistance. For me c/f suited my purpose to stiffen my thin side panels, which it has done wonderfully. I really like the look also.
