I'm sure you've seen a Sealine rudder but if you compare the submerged area of the Sealine double compared to the submerged area of the Feathercraft double rudder it's obvious that lot is wasted to get the wide rudder on deck and not that much actually extends into the water compared to racing rudders. Looking at regular aluminum kickup rudders on 20yr old surfskis is a clue that simply making a kick-up rudder is sufficient for being a rudder while significantly reducing the total size of the rudder size.
