Forget the Zen

of sanding! How about the sheer catharsis of applying the first coat of varnish? Wow, watching the grain come alive and shine brushstroke by loving brushstroke under the varnish is one of life's experiences not to be missed! Or maybe it's the fumes talking. Whatever, I'm hooked, I can't wait to do some more this weekend.

p.s. My wife came down into the basement, admired the freshly varnished hull, then turned to me and said, "I love that smell". God, I love that woman!!
