I wonder, in the greater scheme of things, if women are just naturaly better varnishers. Maybe more patient? Who knows. That great Wooden Boat article a while back on varnishing was penned by a woman. I used to help a old sign painter varnish yacht transoms when I was a boy. His grand-daughter would help us on the busy spring days. She was clearly a better varnisher than I was, though we both used the fast "scrub it on, tip it and leave it the heck alone," technique.
