I also rounded the gunnel using a router also, but glued the scarf joint first. Had to have someone assist so that the 18' long side pieces would not break. I would also take a close look at the color of the pieces and try to match them as best you can. Mine were slightly different colored and that shows in the finished boat (Not much differance viewing at 10' though).

I would ask CLC about the missing drain.
