primer

Reading the archives leads me to believe that most people just don't prime and get pretty spiffy results. I used the high build primer to help me out in a few spots (well, okay, the photo shows more than a few). Slather it on, sand the vast majority of it right back off. This is my first kayak so I don't have a non-primed hull to compare my results to. I will reiterate what others have said before -- the high gloss paint really brings out imperfections on the hull. I didn't use a fairing board way back when I was getting ready to glass the hull and I wish I had now because the chines look kind of wobbly in spots. The scarfs "popped" too. But overall it is an improvement (to my tastes anyway) over the areas of "black ick" that I exposed in my somewhat overzealous sanding.

If you search the archives you will find some good discussions on primer.
