Fittets and plastic ties

Posted by Mischa on May 3, 2004

Hi,

Im currently building a Chesapeake 16 and I am about to make the fillets. I have opted to use small plastic ties rather than wire for the stitching. This leaves me with two questions:

1. The inside loops are higher than the fillets will be as I made the holes for the ties 3/8 inches from the edge and the fillets are only to be 6mm high (thickness of the plywood). Should I make the fillets as high as the loops? If I dont, how will the glass tape stay flat? 2. The plastic wires ties cant be removed from the fillets once they have dried. Even after I sand the ties down they will still be big, white and visible, right? Is there any way to minimize this, or will I have to paint to hide them?

Thanks, Mischa
