Re: "Lift off speed"?

I have canvas cockpit covers on my boats for travelling so I can stuff the boat with gear & keep it in & dry- instead of one of those coffins. Had no trouble with them even in cross winds & been buffetted by passing trucks on long treks up to The Bay Of Islands, Himitangi Plains just out of Levin is usually the worst in a westerly. I'd go for the tether strap on the hatch cover. Beware of pressure changes on long trips if your seals are very watertight- if you close the hatch on a cold night & then drive (also pack at Sea level & drive over a high altitude road) on a warm day, the air pressure will build up & could contribute to the hatch coming off. Eleveate with a piece of string through the seal to allow air pressure equalisation. But it then will let water wick through if it rains!!
