Epoxy coats every thing. Each little peak and valley in the weave. After 3 coats the glass is covered but you can still see the weave pattern. Thats perfectly normal. Time for sanding. Sand the thing smooth until no little shiney dots show - the valleys from your weave texture. I find that I sometimes need a 4th coat after all that sanding. That should just need a prep sanding for paint.

Your second question - no paint will not hide it. Unless you paint and sand (and paint and sand and paint and sand......) until you have a bunch of painted dots than means you finally filled in the valleys with paint.

Better to do it with epoxy.
