GG, I would check the archive for notes from Kurt on this. He explains how to know how far to sand, by the appearance.

The posts above recommend something closer to a cleaning. I don't think that agrees with "the book" or with Kurt's more detailed advice.

So I may be misunderstanding your question completely, forgive me.

Anyway, with that disclaimer, I thought that the purposes of sanding between coats were

(a) to give a "bite" to the next layer (only required if the epoxy has cured.) This sanding apparently requires that you use nothing finer than 220, or maybe 320. I don't think ScotchBrite (R) would qualify.

(b) second, to knock the tops off of the hills created by the weave. My understanding is that epoxy applied over these hills and valleys without first knocking down the hills will mostly just follow the contours, rather than filling the valleys. I ain't the expert here, though.
