Planing the Sheer Clamps

Posted by Dave on Apr 24, 2004

Im bulding a WR180 and the instructions on planing the sheer are a little vague. I understand the part about using the planing guide im just wondering if the outside edge of the sheer clamp is supposed to be even with the hull. I cant imagine it being any other way due to the gap between the deck and hull that would occur, so I have starting at the bulkheads and continuing the curve of the bulk head through the sheer. Is this the correct way to go? Also, i decided to bevel the sheer clamps instead of cutting them off 4 and 5 inches from the bow and stern for a little extra support and space to nail the deck down, sould I just sand them down flat and even with the hull at those points or continue the planing? any help is much appriciated as i would like to start up using that plane again, until then... off to scarf the bow deck panels. Cheers, Dave
