Good question, but probably won't be answered anytime soon. Pruden's link was just about the first engineering data I've seen related to wood kayak building. I guess it's because we are hobbyists, so there's no demand for data to allow optimization of build decisions.

Also, I'm starting to see that engineering results about strength and weight don't really help us amateurs that much anyway. I don't know how we could relate strength data for isolated panels to failure in use.

Guess that's why they pay CLC designers those huge salaries and perks.

Perhaps those of you who have seen real structural failures (remember that guy who smashed his kayak up on whitewater and fixed it, a couple years ago?) could make practical use of comparative strength/cost/weight data, because you would know what broke how.
