Patuxent 17.5

Hi there: I would like to build the Patuxent 17.5 but dont know if it needs a rudder. Two years ago I have built the Cape Charles and it`s a great paddling without a rudder. But the Patuxent is longer and has less rocker. So what would be best? Thanks, and Greetings from Austria Wilfried
