Oil-based stains and epoxy are emphatically incompatible. Water-based and alcohol-based stains work, but with so much variability in results that CLC doesn't have an Official Position on any of them, other than this: For heaven's sake, do a test panel with the stain and the epoxy to check for compatibility and color-fastness.

There are folks on this Forum who have a lot more experience (both good AND bad) with stains beneath epoxy and their comments are welcome. We've done some experiments in-house (again, with mixed results) but 95% of my experience with stain is mopping up the aftermath of a huge epoxy failure.
