My advice would be to go paddle the boat first before deciding on a skeg. The Chesapeake 18 has, in effect, a built-in skeg at the stern and tracks pretty strongly right out of the box. Hard to compare it to the Cape Charles 18.
If you decide you want a tracking aid, which admittedly can be a luxury in some combinations of wind and wave, our skeg scheme is retrofittable. You just have to redo your varnish.
