Barefootdave is using many of these techniques on a Chesapeake 14 (pics at the link below). The link pic should show the form that replaced the deck beam while the deck was applied (without nails). That's why the 14's sheer clamps could be so small. No great effort to reduce weight, just more patience than I have to avoid adding it. I believe the glassed hull was under 25 lbs before the coaming was added.
