if its a kit, it should pretty much fit at its design location with a minimum of trimming. in my experience the most common adjustment i have needed to make is for the notch of the shear clamps. if its a kit and it doesn't fit, that may be indicative of either wrong location or some other element of the hull is not assembled correctly.
