Family Boatbuilding 2005

The local paper did a nice article on our Eastport Pram building marathon. Everybody had a grand time, although there'll be plenty of sanding on some of those speed-fillets....

The most exciting moment for me was when one of the volunteers emptied a gallon of hardener into the resin bunker on the bulk-epoxy dispenser. This did interesting things to the internal clockworks of the $500 bulk metering pump. Pumping a gallon of denatured alchohol through the machine brought it back from the dead, however.

At home the families will finish the epoxy coating. And sand. And sand some more.

The Baltimore Sun also ran a nice piece. Just three blocks away, CLC ran a mirror event, building eleven 10-foot sail-training dinghies designed by Rob Ladd. That also went well. We'll try to get some of the photos of that event up on the site, too.
