We are having a big ol' boat show out here in the West. A seminar on boat finishes, ya know boats out side all the time, the speaker recommended 10, TEN coats of varnish for UV protection. The speaker was from DIY magazine. OK, so yer yak is not exposed to any where near the same level of UV as the brightwork on a yacht. You need SOMETHING with UV inhibitors over the epoxy in the cockpit. A kayak is alot less work to refinish, still your putting down a base for all future coats to adhere to.
