half oval

I know some of the builders here have used the brass half oval to protecet the stem and other parts of the hull. How thick is this stuff? My guess is maybe 1/4 "..... This is an after thought for me and I'll have to add on some kind of perch for the half oval as the ends of my canoe were less than the 3/8" base width of the brass. Also I don't want to screw through my stems. RogerJ
