as chris said...sharp razor...and pull away the cloth as you lightly cut. the key is the epoxied deck cloth should be green (7 to 8 hours from when you applied it)....it will cut easily yet is very soft compared to the epoxy on the side of the hull which when i have done this, is already sanded smooth with 120 grit.

if you let the epoxy move beyond green stage...then this method does not work well as the epoxy is to hard to cut easily ..and you cannot feel the difference between the layers of new and old cloth.
