Thanks for the link to duckworks. It looks similar to what I was thinking and will certainly be a good resource for me as an amateur boatbuilder.

As far as features, this board is seriously lacking as an archive of information and doesn't allow builders to keep their own journal or upload pictures. What this board has that would be very hard to recreate is a vibrant community of helpful and thoughtful contributers.

Overall, you raise a good point. The features I am thinking about do exist in other places. In fact, it may be more helpful to contribute to existing sites than to confuse new builders.
