I know that seems like excessive detail but for folks with older Chesapeaks that don't have the above/below deck hatch reinforcements subsequent to 2000 it's worth looking at the hatch to see if there's any delamination of the 4mm hatch under the deck at the edge of the rib, if there is you might check on it's ability to withstand your body weight before someone uses it in rough conditions where flotation/compartment integrity is not negotiable. A simple test would be to do a push up on the hatch,,which is close to what will happen in a paniced rescue.
