Also being an avid small craft sailer I have found that while waxing a hull looks good, it doesn't increase your speed. If you talk to racers they will tell you it actually slows you down. I think it has something to do with the boundary layer formation on the waxed surface. It's been a long time since fluid dynamics so I don't remember all of the details.

I don't know if the kayaks will reach speeds high enough where this will make a difference though.
