Generally it is best to add fiberglass to the deck BEFORE cutting hatches or added the coaming. Don't know what model boat you are building, but if the hatch cut-outs will become the hatch covers, this helps the cover keep the same curve (though probalby will have some spring-back in S&G boats), makes a cleaner cut and the color will match well.

Lighter boats are easier to carry and large end-pours are completely unecessary, so I prefer to put my wasted epoxy in the garbage.

It's not absolutely necessary to thicken the epoxy when making endpours, but if it will weigh less if wood dust or microballons are added, and it will be much easier to drill through if that style of handle-hold will be used. I thicken mine with both microballoons and wood dust to a syrupy consistency.

Thickened epoxy also leaks less if you're building a dam to hold the endpour in position.

John P.S.: Build STRONG dams if using them for an endpour -- Some folks have been surprised to learn that their dam broke!
