Glassin' the Sass
Posted by Dan on Apr 24, 2004
Whew!!! I just finished glassing the bottom of my Sass 16. First time I've ever done anything with fiberglass.
To start, I cut and laid the glass and mixed up 8 ounces of epoxy. The 8 ounces covered about 1/3 of the hull and it was looking great, just like in the pictures.
So then I got in a hurry and decided to mix a bigger batch to finish the hull.
Before I could finish the stems, it kicked off. Foolishly I tried to keep slathering it on and ended up with a glob of mess at one stem.
Could have been worse I guess. Anyway, now it looks like I have some scraping and sanding to do before I roll on the fill coats.
Also, the float between the #1 and #2 planks is a lot. I'm waiting for it to stiffen a little and plan on using a spatula to kinda tuck it into the joint.
Any thoughts on this?
