Gerald Maroske of Kiel, Germany first posted how to make tube fittings frequently called Maroske fittings. Unfortunately his website does not currently work. John Schroeder's web site does a similar fitting.

The "soft padeye" by Joe Greenly is also a good solution. When doing a self rescue especially a cowboy re-entry, it sure is nice not to have hard fittings biting at your exposed legs, under belly and all.
