Last Quarter
Posted by Mac on Sep 8, 2004
Lee,
I've noticed that, say I want to turn left - or correct left, I knee hang (lean) right and sweep stroke on the right. Once the paddle passes the right coaming (say 5 o'clock), I used to pull it out fearing a right hand face plant. Now I try to complete the stroke further with a hip flick to quickly bring the hull level. The layak really spins left as the stern is pulled to the right.
This is a little hairy for me still, and I'm sure to dump sooner or later until I master it, but is this what you mean about utilizing the last quarter of the stroke?
