exactly,,especially if your blade is extended comfortably and not digging down close to the hull,,or you will go over. I'm the same way,,about not feeling at ease with it. That's why a kayak that "unhooks" distinctively with a lean or is maneuverable can be nice as it reduces the amount of torquing required in that aft quarter where you aren't ergonomically in a strong position,ie. not lifting shoulder, keeping forearm parallel to aft deck. It does require a bit more care in the placement/angle of the stroke to keep from wandering in a maneuverable kayak but there's no free lunch.
