cartopping a double

Hi,

So, I've got 17 days left before I need to show up at my dad's cottage with a shiny 21 foot double...glassing the deck tonight, so I think I might make it. Trouble is, the thing is so darn long, I'm worried about transporting it. Has anyone out there used roof racks for a double? Any risk of splitting it in the middle due to hinge point, etc?
