Al, It should be okay since the thing will be glassed, but try to separate the bars as much as possible. I've heard of people car topping this without problems, but if you have a van or truck it's certainly better. Another possibility is a trailer hitch rack (like a T bar that goes into the hitch). That may be a little on the expensive side if you're just worried about short trips, but might be a good option if you intend to drive a lot with the long boat. That way you'll have a good 4 or 5 feet of separation between the support bars.
