Hello,
I'm considering a Pocketship build and was wondering what experience anybody has had with a Sapele build, kit or from plans? Does it affect the saling/safety charateristics in any way, for better or worse?
As well, is it more difficult to build using Sapele?
As John Harris mentioned in the building manual, I'd ideally like to use Sapele as it the most durable and strongest, but am concerned that the heavier boat might be less safe/able.
Any advice much appreciated! Thanks.
John

RE: Sapele Pocketship
Hull #1 was all sapele, and we've shipped a few kits cut from sapele.
If anything, I think the all-okoume PocketShips are coming in a bit LIGHT. There are certainly no concerns about a sapele PocketShip being overweight.
The sapele is a bit stiffer. I worried about the sapele plywood panels forming up at the bow, but when that step went fine on Hull #1, I was no longer concerned.

I believe Pocketship 1 is Sapele. Perhaps John will weigh in on this.
