Glassing the MC 16.5 Deck

I'm just about to begin the deck work on my MC 16.5 Nowhere in the instructions do I find anything about 'glassing the deck... Simply the application of various coats of epoxy, and then finish as desired. However, earlier posts suggest that the deck had been glassed. What's the spin, y'all? Glass or no glass? Will the extra glass (if used) add substantial weight? I've come too far to be stumped now!
